Preparing for Christmas Week Two: Laundry Areas

This week we are working in our laundry spaces.
If you have a mountain of laundry like I do, begin by sorting that into doable loads and getting them clean. Once clean, quickly sort through these items to determine what is trash, donation and keep items.
I personally think this is possibly the most important room to deep clean. More house fires start in this room due to dryer lint than almost anywhere else. This week, we will be cleaning our washers and dryers as well as the walls, floors, cabinets if you have them and whatever else you have in this space.
Make a list of your goals for this room. What do you need to get done in here this week and how long do you think it will take? Gather your cleaning items and some bags to sort into.
First go through sorting trash, donation, keep items and things that need to go to another room.
Then begin cleaning. Pull your machines away from the wall to clean behind them (and under them if possible).
Search online to see how to properly clean your machines and how to clean the dryer vent. This is usually not a difficult task and is WELL worth it. Typically, vinegar and bleach do the job of cleaning along with a rag for the washer. A vacuum is often all that is needed for the dryer with a damp rag for wiping down.
Once this is done, push your machines back into place and clean in front of them. Don’t forget to mop!
Now organize your supplies. Containerize whatever you can and keep it within easy reach to make laundry go more quickly.
As you finish, make a list of decorating items you may want for this room along with any organizing items that may make your life easier. Add these to the list from last week so while you are out and about you can keep a watch for them.

Blessings in this challenge ladies,

After Pictures of Entry Ways

We are still working on unpacking boxes, but the entry ways are feeling more homey.
I have a little furniture now and some fall décor beginning to make their way out.
Before moving in, I cleaned the windows and baseboards and wiped down switch plates. It smells nicer in my opinion and seems much fresher to have this cleaning done.
You will notice I keep my entry way very simple. I like to do this throughout my home to make cleaning easier.
Our closet has a basket for shoes as well as hanging space. I use the basket mainly for everyday shoes and the hanging storage for nicer shoes. The hanging shelves will have bins eventually to store hats and gloves as the weather gets cooler. Above on the shelf are my diaper bags and eventually coats will be hung here as well.
Keeping this space clean in the weeks to come: I assign spaces to each day of the week. Mondays are entry ways and outdoor spaces. I spend 15 minutes on that day focusing in this area. In the new year, I will spend one month deep cleaning this space as needed.
I hope you are all feeling better about your entry ways and inspired for the weeks ahead!

Blessings,

Audrey

Preparing for Christmas Challenge: Entry Way

This week we are working in our entry ways ladies.

As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD
Joshua 24:15

Take a before picture and share with the group on Facebook!

Today, begin with making a list of what you need to work on in this area. Is it really working for you the way that it is?

We will be deep cleaning this area so prepare to clean windows, baseboards, switch plates, light fixtures, walls and floors. Is there any furniture you will need to clean as well? Are there any bulbs that need to be replaced? If you have a porch area, could it use a sweeping off?

Before you clean, take some time to declutter this zone. Grab some bags or boxes to sort through trash, donations, things that need to go to another room and items you will keep here. Start in one small area and work your way around. Ask yourself, does this bring me joy? Does it serve a helpful purpose? Does another item serve the same purpose?

When you have decluttered and cleaned, look at the items you have left. How will you store these? What decor do you have? A basket for shoes is always helpful. It can be stored under a bench for you to sit on when you are putting on shoes. Do you have hooks or a closet for coats? How about an area for bags? Do you have a rug to catch dirt as it comes in? Make a list of the things you may need, then, first, go shopping in your own home! What can you repurpose? Do you have an extra chair in the garage? There’s your shoe changing space! Do you have left over hooks from another project? Use them for coats!

When done organizing, keep a list of items you want to be on the look out for on the notepad mentioned in the previous post. Check this list often for when items go on sale or you find a good deal at a yardsale. Then….it’s time to decorate! I like to keep this area fairly simple, but the verse above will be in my new entry way along with some seasonal flowers. As you finish your decorating, take a picture to share with the group at the end of the week!

Blessings in this week ladies,

Audrey

Preparing Our Hearts for Our New Challenge

Every day could be considered a challenge, but when I start a new series like this, I always like to take a moment to prepare my heart.

What would God have me learn in this? What would He have me share?

Ladies, take a moment to pray. Pray for courage, endurance, grace and direction. God delights when the focus of our home and our day is Him. Below are some verses that I keep in my journal to encourage me and direct me in my days. I hope they are of encouragement to you as well.

Through wisdom is a house builded; and by understanding it is established
Proverbs 24:3

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Proverbs 31:27

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:5

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
Proverbs 14:1

Let all things be done decently and in order.
1 Corinthians 14:40

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men
Colossians 3:23

It’s Coming….

and it starts tomorrow!

Get ready for the newest cleaning challenge!

Spend tonight getting your cleaning supplies together. Don’t forget boxes or trash bags to sort into! Prepare yourself to be organized. Have a notepad and pens handy to jot down ideas and lists. Remember, this challenge will include deeper cleaning, so plan to have help moving furniture if you need it!

I’ll be posting organizing, decorating and cleaning ideas throughout this challenge–including recipes for cleaning supplies and products that I use!

This challenge should end about 2 weeks before Christmas so relax and enjoy the journey! Do not feel pressured to compare yourself or your home to anyone else’s. We are all in different places and our paths all look different. Our goal is to create a warm, loving and grace filled home.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men
Colossians 3:23

I cannot wait to share this time with you all!

Blessings,

Audrey

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:18-19

New House Tour

I know you all have been desiring to see our new home, so here is a quick tour!

The exterior of our home. To the right is a three car garage with studio apartment above. There is a large circle drive and a view of preserve area surrounding the golf course across the street.

The front entry hall. Off of this there are two rooms (to the right and left) and an open living room.

This is the room to the left in the previous picture. It is intended to be a dining room but will be our library lounge. Lots of bookshelves and a comfy chair will be in here!

This room is to the right.  It will be our office with more book space and a large table for a desk.

The living room is a beautiful open space with a bay window (I’ve always wanted one!). Built-ins flank the wood burning fireplace and by the entrance to the kitchen is stair to the second floor.

The kitchen has an eat in area that overlooks the backyard and a large pantry (perfect for little ones to hide in!).

The bright yellow laundry room and several closets are in the hall outside the kitchen. Excited to finally have a laundry room…and washer and dryer!

Just down the hall from the laundry room is a second entrance through a beautiful screened porch. Outside this porch is a path to the garage and the apartment.

At the other end of the hall is a half bath (with an amazing mirror!)

And to the right is our master bedroom. There is a patio outside this room that connects to the kitchen.

The master bath has a walk in closet that will function as our family closet. No running laundry up and down stairs!

Back out in the living room, we head up stairs. To the left is a guest room and bath, to the right the children’s rooms and play room.

Guest bath. This guest room is really neat. It has a built in murphy bed and craft table. Unfortunately my pictures didn’t come out!

This room will belong to our little R. He’s very excited to have a “big boy room”!

This room connects to a jack-and-jill bathroom and then another bedroom.

Eventually, this room off the jack-and-jill bathroom will belong to our sweet E when she is old enough.

Down the hall is another large closet. This will be storage for now, but might be another family closet if we need it in the future. A ladder to the attic is in this room as well. My DH has dreams of finishing off that space (it’s over 1000 sq ft!).

And lastly, possibly my favorite room. The play room….with built ins! A few more bookshelves will be added to this room to store all the toys, books and other child fun stuffs. I imagine the children will play down stairs mostly right now, so I will have lots of bins and baskets so only a few things come down at a time.

So that’s the tour ladies! This is the final view from the balcony upstairs. I look forward to sharing more with you as we move in and decorate!

Blessings,

Audrey

Declutter Series Week Ten: Bonus Room

I haven’t updated about the playroom or this week’s challenge because my phone, with all my pictures has broken! I’ll post this without the pictures then add them as soon as I can!

Almost done! It’s week ten and this week is your bonus room. Pick whatever room you haven’t gotten to or one that needs a little pick up again.

First, take your before pictures and post in the group!

Grab some bags or boxes to sort trash, donatations, keep and other room items into.

Start in one corner or on one surface. Sort everything!

Once done sorting, clean. Vacuum and dust quickly. Do not worry about perfection.

Then containerize! Keep like items together and put them away where it makes sense.

Take an after picture and load up your donation bags to drop off next time you’re in town and take the trash to the curb.

Blessings,

Audrey
